Dubai Fountain, the water games

Dubai Fountain, the water games at the Burj Khalifa

Every day, at around 6 pm, the water, light and sound show starts – every half hour – for the duration of a selected music title. The music changes every 30 minutes, as does the play of the fountains. The Dubai Water Show is about 25 % larger than the Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas, making it one of the largest water fountains ever built.

The music track “Sama Dubai” was written especially for the ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Whether “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, the Titanic theme song “My heart will go on”, “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston or “Baba yetu” by Christopher Tin … – we could list many more examples here. Visitors who bring the time with them wait another 30 minutes. Then the game of fountains begins again. Which title will come next?

The Dubai Fountains play at Burj Lake, directly below the Burj Khalifa. If you leave the Dubai Mall to the lake side, you stand right in front of it. Even though there are always a lot of people streaming out of the mall at the fountain’s scheduled times, you can always get a great spot to admire the spectacle up close.

If you want to see the fountain from above, choose one of the restaurants in the Dubai Mall on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd floor facing the lake. The view down is magnificent and you can watch several shows at once during dinner. In the Souk Al Bahar opposite, there are restaurants with large terraces from which the play of the fountains can be watched perfectly.

The Dubai Fountain Lake Ride is another way to see the fountains up close – from a boat. Tickets for the spectacular boat ride in an abra are available directly at Burj Lake for about 15 euros per person. The Dubai Fountain shows end at 10 p.m. on weekdays and around 11 p.m. on public holidays.
